Eliminationist euphimism

Reason eviscerates a presumed pundit, but the key line for me was this from the pundit’s view of an advanced, progressive society —

A ban on carbon emissions.

Wouldn’t that require genocide? Or possibly even ecoside as all those animals cause carbon emissions.

Even plants emit carbon emissions, so we’d have to remove all life from earth.

What about anaerobic bacteria? And we could certainly leave the sulfur reducing bacteria alone. No carbon emissions there!

I just wonder how putatively intelligent adults can write such things — as I have long suspected a total lack of introspection must be a requirement to be in the Modern American Left.

I had forgotten about anaerobes (and I’m not sure how a putatively intelligent person like myself could have forgotten such a thing :-). You’re quite right, we could leave a few types of living organisms even with a complete ban on carbon emissions.
