If you know why this is funny, you should be ashamed of yourself

Jonah Goldberg writes about something I covered long ago but I laughed out loud at a comment. At one point Goldberg writes about the “Mars need women!” style of alien invasion

why would super-intelligent squids want to get jiggy with our bipedal and mammalian lady folk?

“Ask the Japanese” responded one commenter.

Hahaha. If you don’t get it, you’re probably happier not knowing.

Funny how posts only six years old seem dated in a way hard to pinpoint. I laughed at quite a few of the comments on Goldberg’s blog especially the one who said: do.not.google and I think I’ll take his advice and not confirm my suspicions.

As a kid I went from fairy tales to science fiction which was great back in the day. Still love it, but hate the fantasy gory icky stuff they call sci-fi now.

I insisted we get a color TV so I could watch Captain Kirk in color — of course, I said it was for the kids. ;-]

Annoying Old Guy Monday, 24 October 2011 at 16:21

Back about 10 years ago or so, the guys at work were bragging on their mad intertubes skillz and said “we’ll play gross out — who ever sends the grosses link wins”. I said “you do not want to play that game with me”. “Haha”, they said, “you’re just chicken”. They are still scarred to this day and when I tell them “you do not want to open this link”, they do not open the link.

There’s still some good stuff out there. For instance the Stargate SG-1 series is reasonably kid safe without excessive gore or sex (although I haven’t gotten in to it, the rest of the family is addicted).

I’ll call upon your expertise should I come across a link of dubious origin. We’ve recently watched some old Twilight Zone episodes and were pleasantly surprised at how well they’ve stood the test of time. Apparently Stargate SG-1 is being shown on a channel we don’t get, but I’ll keep my eye out for it. Thanks for the tip.
