House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has made clear she wants investigate opposition to the Ground Zero Mosque after saying it, then having an aide walk it back. Well, the House Un-American Activites Committee was a creation of the Democratic Party, it shouldn’t be surprising their leaders always return to their roots.

Yes, but they were really Repubicans in disguise.

Outrage at an investigation of NAZIS in the ‘30s is not a position I’d want to be taking in 2010. Just sayin’.

Yes, but no one is understanding. Last I checked, HUAC operated in the 1950s and involved Communists.

Or are you providing us with another example of exactly the kind of rationality free smears because you’ve lost the argument that Charles Krauthammer writes about?

Harry Eagar Friday, 27 August 2010 at 13:53

Ah, but the original anticommunist investigations were started by Fish of Martin, Barton and Fish fame, so he wasn’t a Democrat. When the Democrats took over the chairmanships, they investigated Nazis.

Dies, who erp correctly identifies as a Republican in Democrat robes, went to prison for stealing employment funds.

Are you really sure you want to keep bringing these things up?

So, the GOP investigated current and significant threats to the Republic, while the Democratic Party investigated irrelevant past threats. As usual, the GOP is serious and the Democratic Party is just posturing. Are you sure you want to keep bringing these things up?

P.S. I see we’re never going to get an explanation for your original comment on this post.

My quote above is broad sarcasm referring to the numerous times when you, confronted with the fact that Democratics were responsible for many of the ills which you decry, have made the statement, that they really were Republicans or became Republicans later or …

As for the party affiliation of corrupt polticians, one can’t go far wrong by guessing that those who go to prison are Republicans and those who get a strong letter of rebuke (or a pat on the back) are Democrats.

The Democrats took over the chairmanships in ‘33, so Nazism was hardly a past threat at the time.

I suspect that if you knew the history of HUAC, my first comment wouldn’t be obscure, but erp is right: The apparatus of the national security state was largely put in place by Truman, even before the McCarthyite wing of the Republican Party took it over.

Some Democrats, but apparently not Pelosi, later regretted that.

I have never made a statement evenly remotely like the one attributed to me above. However, as I plow through M. Evans Stanton’s, Blacklisted by History … (it’s very detailed and thorough which makes it very slow going), I am appalled and disgusted anew at the coverups and left leaning of the Truman administration, not a whit better than his predecessor’s.

Harry Eagar Sunday, 29 August 2010 at 13:34

But Democrats WERE responsible for many of the evils I decry. We agree.

Specifically, loyalty oaths and witch-hunting investigations of harmless Americans were started by Truman.

‘left leaning of the Truman administration’

You mean how Truman rolled over for the leftists in Greece? Or Japan? Perhaps you are thinking of how he failed to resist leftism in Korea/

erp, you need to read somebody less delusional than Evans.
