Buggy debuggers

I had a bunch of links saved up to write about but I lost them last evening because FireFox didn’t save my session data. I think it’s because I have the Firebug installed to debug various web projects. It’s buggy and flaky but works well enough that it is very valuable in figuring out where the problem is. Still, I kind of remember a few of them so perhaps I won’t be completely silent.

Firefox 3 doesn’t seem to be playing nice with Blogger and Adobe. I’m not sure if the Norton 2009 I recently installed started the trouble. I turned off the Windows Firewall because Norton was throwing a fit that I turned off its firewall, then I turned off Norton’s phishing because I kept get dire warnings of impending doom if I opened one of my bookmarked sites. Now Norton is back to the default position and the Windows firewall is off again.

However, some pictures on Blogger blogs including my own two aren’t visible with Firefox, but show up in IE and I can’t download pdf files in Firefox that work fine in IE.

Since I don’t play games or download tunes or make videos, I don’t need all the fancy stuff. I’d like to go back to Firefox 2 to see if that resolves things.

I left messages and sent emails to Firefox asking about how to do that but none of them were answered.

Is there an easy way of doing this without jeopardizing my existing stuff?

What I do is own a rack of computers and have different versions of the primary web browsers installed on them so I can check things like that. So I checked your weblog with my FireFox 3 browser and it looks fine and I have no problem downloading PDF files, so I think that that problem is local and not FireFox 3 related. Did you at any point have no firewall running?

You might want to try Opera (http://opera.com) and see if that has problems. It’s a very nice web browser.

You might also want to look at http://del.icio.us, which is a social bookmarking website. Like much of the online social things, I use it in psychopathic loner style, and you can too. You can migrate your bookmarks there and then not lose much if your browser goes flaky.

Once you do that, you could uninstall FireFox 3 and then install FireFox 2.
