I upgraded my camera to a D300 and picked up a few other accessories, such as an external charger for the flash and the vertical grip. The result is that when I am fully loaded photographically, I need 18 AA batteries, plus a special camera battery. Plus, SWIPIAW got a Wii game console for Christmas and the remotes for that take two AAs each, with enough use that I have to replace them every few days. It’s not the batteries so much, but the charger space. I had to throw out most of the chargers I had, because they won’t charge modern NiMh batteries (which go up to 2500 mAH, while the old chargers were limited to 700 - 1000 mAH). At least now, though, I recharge batteries often enough to make rechargable batteries practical.
18 batteries! It must weigh a ton. Can you roll it along on a little trolley?

It’s got some heft to it. I need to work on my upper body strength anyway, but I can still hand hold it with smaller lenses. The big lenses are too heavy even without all the upgrades.
I haven’t had the new camera long enough to get any really good shots, so here’s one from the D70, just for you. It’s Girl Three, growing up to be a real American girl. Pretty pink dress, princess tiara, double barreled shotgun.
I love it. A fancy crown on her head and a missile launcher in her arms. Adorable! Those cretinous college boys better beware.

OT, but …
We got a Canon SLR last year. Takes great pictures.
And is a hothouse flower. Just a few minutes exposure to not particularly cold temperatures (anything below about 30 deg F) and the vista camera goes completely stoooopid.
Just the thing for Alaska.

It could be the batteries. The cold might cause the voltage to drop enough to confuse the circuitry.
What’s extra cute is that Girl Three understands the concept of loading a shotgun, because this toy breaks up like a real one, and has casing like shotgun shells to put the Nerf darts in.

Yes, it could be the batteries.
Except that my daughter’s cheap-o camera doesn’t do the shrinking violet thing. We started taking two batteries, and keeping the second in a pocket.
No help.
