My brain hates me

Augh. Reading this post I realized that there is one good thought experiment which makes me more favorable to Senator McCain.

Others have noted McCain’s similarities to former president Nixon (the paranoia, the vengefulness, the liberalism). Like Nixon, I expect McCain to taint the GOP for a decade or two after his term, just like Nixon. Here’s the question, though — if you could go back to 1972, knowing what you do now, would you vote for McGovern on the same theory as voting against McCain now?

Nixon led to Carter who led to Reagan.….……So which party ended up “tainted?” I say, in the minds of those more reasonable Americans who could conceivably vote Republican, the Dems ended up more tainted.

I think the GOP. Like despite for Senator McCain, awareness of former president Carter’s moral depravity is limited to political addicts like us. I have yet to meet a single person in real life who has any idea of what Carter’s been up to. All of them look at me aghast when I declare my dislike for Carter. “But why?” is always the question.

On the other hand, even the most politically naive know about Nixon. Even among the addicts, just count up how many more Nixon than Carter comparisons are done.

sure, how much worse can it turn out ? mcgovern is out in ‘76 and reagan starts 4 years younger, carter never happens, and the dems are squarely tarred with the vietnam defeat. and the big pay-off: iran never goes mullah :)
