Fallen Star

As I read about the gathering debacle in Annapolis, I can’t help but think how far Condoleeza Rice’s star has fallen. It’s been a long time since I have read any positive reviews of her, or discussions of her political future. I think she got too caught up in ends instead of means, hence Annapolis. The goal is clearly not to push any particular national security interest or principle, but just to get some people to show up and sign a document that will be irrelevant trivia before the ink is dry. Is that a function of how diplomacy is done in today’s milieu, or was Rice not strong enough to avoid getting sucked in to the State Department alternate reality?

UPDATE: There’s still one person carrying the torch.

i can’t decide if i should use ‘>’ or ‘>=’ to describe her incompetence compared to albright’s. she really is an appalling bad SOS, and pretty much reinforces the record of the inept intellectual, lost in the real world. it’s odd how a person can be book smart and street dumb at the same time. kind of interesting from a darwinian point of view.

It seems to be a triumph of theory over experience as well. It’s not so much that the intellectuals get it wrong, it’s that they don’t seem to learn from experience and get snookered the same way over and over again.

I agree that intellectuals are useless and may add them as a sub-category to my doers and dreamers theory. They neither do nor dream, they wonk. Harmless if not allowed too near to the fire.

I can’t decide why Condi hasn’t been in the media cross hairs. If she really has been taken over by the lefties at state, why isn’t the media crowing about it. Maybe she’s working under the radar and things are happening we don’t know about.

Maryland conference? Sounds like all the other meaningless summits and signed agreements we’ve weathered over the years. Only, it’s not at all like Bush to waste time with nonsensical niceties like who’s not going to shake which other guy’s hand. Talk about fiddling while Rome is burning …

I would argue that Rice isn’t in the media cross hairs anymore precisely because she’s given in to the Dark Side and Old Media is generally soft on their own. Just as you can tell things get better in Iraq when coverage decreases, you can tell that Rice is being assimilated by the drop in hit pieces on her.

she’s convinced she’s doing the Lord’s work…too bad it’s Lord Vader :)
