You know you’re disconnected from the ruling class when your governor, his massive tax hike plan in political trouble, makes threats to which you viscerally respond “yes, do it!”. In this case, the governor said “support my tax hike or I will cut state spending by $1B / year”. I plan to write my state legislators about how much I support this new plan of cutting spending. Probably the one good idea the governor has had in his two terms.

I’m sure he will cut the non-essential first. Police, Fire, Jails, sewage systems, road repair.

Yeah, I thought about complaining about that sort of extortion, but I thought a more enthused, upbeat approach (“I think the governor’s new plan to cut spending is great!”) would work better. For the state representative, who is a leftist even for a college town in Illinois, I worked in the “families struggling with this terrible economy have to cut back, why not the state government, to avoid burdening those families with more taxes?” line. That’s the beauty of mocking Leftists, they suffer from so much reality dysfunction that you can always fork them that way.

BTW My son’s last day of school was today. He’s graduating with a double major in Physics and Computer Science. University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Dude! I almost did that. I was a Computer Science major at UIUC but, due to difference with the department, I ended up taking enough physics classes to have gotten a bachelor’s in the field but the paperwork was too much bother.
